Jean 103 Classic 12

Introducing a new limited edition chronograph from Sinn, an independent watchmaker based in Frankfurt, Germany. From the days of real pilot and founder Helmut Sinn, the 103 series is one of the classic chronograph lineups that come to mind when we think of Jin’s classic pilot’s replica watches. Since the birth of the first model in the mid-1960s, it has gone through countless variations and has influenced other Pilot Chronograph series.

This year, Jin added a new product to the 103 series. Unlike the previous 103 models, the 103 Classic 12 is trying some detailed changes by changing the layout of the chronograph counter to a 3-6-9 configuration instead of a 12-6-9. The polished stainless steel case has a diameter of 41mm and a thickness of 17mm with a domed sapphire crystal. The insert material for the 12-hour scale bezel is black ceramic material based on zirconium oxide powder to resist scratches and discoloration.
By applying the so-called ‘reverse-panda’ design with a silver sub-dial on a black background, it melts the trendy and sportiness that the younger generation will like in its unique classic look. Except for the brand logo, the simple design unique to the 103 series that excludes unnecessary prints is still there. The bar index and syringe-shaped hands are coated with light beige Super-LumiNova on a white background to add a vintage feel.
The movement is modified and equipped with the automatic chronograph caliber SW510 by Celita (frequency of 4 Hz, power reserve of about 62 hours). Based on the SW500, which is a clone of the Valjoux 7750, it is the latest version with slight changes to the gear train and improved power reserve. Because the movement itself is different, the chronograph layout as well as the calendar (date) display showed a visible difference from the previous 103 models. Although the movement can be viewed through the sapphire crystal caseback, the screw-down crown and pusher design provide ample water resistance to 200 meters.
In addition, the exclusive Ar-Dehumidifying Technology that utilizes argon gas injection removes even minutely penetrating moisture into the case through a dedicated capsule for greater durability.
The 103 Classic 12 model (Ref. 103.181) is a limited edition of 600 pieces to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Jean this year, and retail price is set at 3,270 USD.
